Martir Garcia Lara
A Little Deeper
Martir Garcia Lara, 9, and his father were taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on May 29, after a routine check-in with federal officials in downtown Los Angeles. The next day, they were transferred to a Texas immigration facility and then separated.
The Backstory
ICE confirmed that the father, Martir Garcia-Banegas, entered the U.S. with his son in 2021 illegally.
A judge ordered their removal in 2022.
The father appealed but lost.
ICE says they have “exhausted due process.”
What’s Next
According to The Los Angeles Times, ICE plans to deport both father and son to Honduras. But PTA members and community leaders say the pair may be sent back separately, raising serious concerns for the boy’s well-being.

Imagine a device in your home that quietly watches your feet and could save your life. A medical company in England, called Heartfelt Technologies, has created a scanner that tracks swelling in the feet/ankles which doctors say is a key early sign of heart failure.
How it Works:
The scanner takes about 1,800 images per minute, using artificial intelligence to detect fluid buildup that often leads to emergency hospital visits.
In trials across five UK hospitals, the device correctly predicted five out of six hospitalizations up to 13 days in advance.
The best part? It works automatically—no button pushing or doctor visits.
Why it Matters:
Researchers believe this could be the future of healthcare: smart, non-invasive tech that gives people early warning signs and more control over their health, all from the comfort of home.
