Epstein Fallout: Congress Ducks Vote, Maxwell Subpoenaed, Trump Deflects

In a moment that's nearly impossible to believe, Republican leaders are sending members of Congress home early for a month-long recess as the Jeffrey Epstein scandal paralyzes Capitol Hill.

The decision to start summer recess ahead of schedule came this morning after Republicans lost control of the House floor amid intense bipartisan pressure to hold a vote on releasing documents related to Epstein.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche posted on social media this morning that he's planning to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein's associate and convicted sex trafficker. Maxwell's lawyer confirmed they're currently in talks and is grateful to President Trump for “uncovering the truth in this case”.

In a surprising bipartisan move today, a House Oversight subcommittee unanimously approved a motion directing GOP Committee Chair James Comer to subpoena Maxwell.

In the latest attempt to distract and deflect from his relationship with Epstein, President Trump accused former President Obama of treason this morning at the White Hosue. Critics say Trump is using these inflammatory (and false) accusations to distract attention from the Epstein scandal and rewrite the narrative around Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

Congress is effectively shutting down for four weeks, not to address urgent issues like inflation or immigration, but to dodge a vote on the Epstein documents.

And the one Republican lawmaker who tried to get his GOP colleagues to vote on the Epstein issue so Congress could get back to work on essential problems, is now facing harsh attacks from President Trump and his party.
