Protests Erupt After ICE Arrest of ICU Nurse-Activist
The immigration battle in Southern California flared again Friday night, as demonstrations outside the Federal Detention Center in Downtown LA erupted into clashes with the LAPD. Protesters demanded the release of ICU nurse and community activist Amanda Trebach, who was taken into custody by ICE Friday morning.
WHAT WE KNOW
LAPD declared an unlawful assembly around 11 p.m. Friday, citing aggressive behavior by some demonstrators.
Trebach was detained by ICE agents while documenting immigration enforcement near Terminal Island in San Pedro.
ICE/DHS hasn’t released any information on why they detainedTrebach
Witnesses say Trebach did nothing to provoke the arrest which was captured on video (see below).
Trebach is an American citizen who has been documenting ICE activity across Southern California.
Supporters are demanding Trebach’s immediate release.
The Wild West Just Got Wilder
Governor Newsom is hosting some of those Texas lawmakers who fled the Lone Star State to block Governor Greg Abbott’s redistricting plan. Critics call it a stunt, accusing them of hiding out in California instead of doing their jobs in Texas.
How does it feel to be Trump’s newest lapdog, @GregAbbott_TX?
Dialing for more GOP seats with no regard for the consequences because we all know — and even Trump knows — he’s going to lose in the midterms.

Yesterday in Sacramento, Newsom stood alongside more than a dozen Texas Democrats to unveil California’s counterpunch: a plan to redraw congressional maps in a way that boosts Democrats in the House and cancels out any GOP gains in Texas come 2026.
So, what does this look like for Californians? Voters will get their first look at the so-called “Revenge Maps” next week.
Voters Split on Redistricting Plan
California lawmakers return from summer recess on August 18 and are expected to vote on Governor Newsom’s push for a special election this November to redraw Congressional Districts.
But how do California voters feel about this so called ‘Revenge Map’ proposal? According to a new Emerson College poll, they’re divided: 33% support the effort, with 25% opposing it. But, the political fight could get intense, 42% of voters are undecided.
EV Owners, Brace Yourselves
If you are an EV driver who has been flying solo in the carpool lane while the rest of Californians sat in traffic- this one is for you. That freeway perk could vanish by October first if Congress doesn’t renew California’s Clean Air Vehicle Decal program. With President Trump already axing EV tax credits, this fix isn’t likely. Let’s just say, might want to mentally prepare for the 405 grind.
