Trump Endorses Newsom Arrest

Tensions Spike Over National Guard Deployment

Let’s Get In Sync

It’s been an eventful and emotional weekend in Los Angeles, fueled by misinformation, social media cowboys, and very real concerns over families being torn apart by ICE raids.

It’s also been tough on law enforcement, many of whom are trying to keep the peace as agitators exploit the moment, smashing windows, burning cars, and hijacking the narrative in the name of protest.

Let’s put this in context and focus on facts over fear. In times like these, local news matters more than ever.

🔍 What’s Going on in L.A.?

  • How widespread is the unrest?
Not as widespread as social media suggests. The protests were largely confined to a few blocks in Paramount, Compton, and downtown Los Angeles. Most of the city remained calm and fully operational.

  • How many National Guard troops are on the ground?

Contrary to claims by the Trump administration that 2,000 troops were deployed, Governor Newsom’s office confirms the number is closer to 300.

  • What’s fueling the confusion?

Viral videos and images—many without context—are making it seem like L.A. is under siege. The reality is more complex and far more localized.

📌 The Latest

  • 29 people were arrested Sunday during protests in downtown L.A., according to LAPD.

  • Demonstrations were sparked by ICE raids in Paramount and the deployment of the National Guard ordered by the Trump administration.

  • Protests escalated into violence: Waymo cars were torched, businesses vandalized and burglarized, and police and officer vehicles attacked.

  • Governor Newsom is now blaming President Trump for inciting the unrest.

  • President Trump has suggested he would support the arrest of Governor Newsom.

  • ICE vows to continue raids in Southern California.

Governor Newsom to Trump Administration: “Arrest Me”

Governor Gavin Newsom said today he plans to sue the Trump administration for deploying National Guard troops to California without the state’s consent, a move he called unprecedented and unconstitutional.

The lawsuit threat follows a heated 24 hours of back-and-forth between Newsom and the Trump administration. Today at the White House, the President said he would support the arrest of Newsom, saying he has done a “terrible job” handling the immigration protests. The link to President’s comments is below:

On Sunday, Newsom dared federal officials to arrest him during an interview with MSNBC. The remarks was a direct response to Trump’s border czar Tom Homan, who warned that both Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass could face federal charges for interfering with ICE raids in Los Angeles.

But today, Homan clarified that he wasn’t calling for the actual arrest of Newsom. Yet, now with the President’s recent comments, he has thrown more fuel into this growing controversy.

ICE Agents Point of View

Fox News has shown what it was like from the viewpoint from ICE agents who captured protesters throwing rocks at their vehicles on Saturday during the height of the violence in Paramount.

Union Leader Arrest

The arrest of union leader David Huerta has become a flashpoint for national protests. Huerta, president of SEIU California and SEIU–United Service Workers West, was tased and injured Friday while protesting ICE raids in Los Angeles. He’s set to appear in court today in downtown L.A., where rallies are expected outside the federal courthouse.

Who’s Tougher on Deportations: Republicans or Democrats?

We’ve seen a lot of noise (and misinformation) floating around on social media about what political party has been tougher on deportations. If you’re talking about brute force, tough talk, and headline-making ICE raids, sure, Republicans take the spotlight. But if you’re talking about actual deportation numbers? The data shows Democrats, especially under Obama, removed more undocumented immigrants than Trump ever did.

 📌 A Little Deeper

According to the Department Homeland Security, President Obama averaged over 438,000 deportations annually during his peak years, far exceeding President Trump’s highest year (approx. 267,258 in 2019).

Total Removals:

  • Obama (2009–2016): ~3.2 million

  • Trump (2017–2020): ~1 million

Policy Focus

  • Obama prioritized recent border crossers and immigrants with criminal records.

  • Trump expanded the priority list to nearly all undocumented immigrants, but legal, logistical, and pandemic-related hurdles kept overall removals lower.

🎯 Why These Differences Matter

  1. Obama’s Interior Enforcement Peak:
Driven by programs like Secure Communities, which matched the fingerprints of arrestees against immigration databases.

  2. Trump’s Lower Totals Despite Harsher Rhetoric:
Expansive ICE raids generated headlines, but removals never reached Obama-era highs.

  3. Counting Matters:
These are formal removals. Trump’s Title 42 border expulsions (pandemic-related)

What About Trump vs. Biden?

Turns out, Trump’s removal numbers are actually 1% lower than Biden’s daily average. Maybe that’s why we’re suddenly seeing ICE raids ramp up in L.A. and other cities.
